Some of the real life locations of Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou (Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll) can be found in Germany. Nuremberg, Mannheim and Cochem to be precise. We did this anime pilgrimage within 2 days with time to spare for a visit in Duesseldorf for some authentic Japanese ramen.
But we would recommend to stay longer in one place if you want to tour the mentioned cities as well. Here in this guide we, @q87dt and me @and3rgraund, will show you around and tell you how to find these places if you want to visit them yourself. All locations can are also available in the Google Maps linked at the end of this article.
Update 28 June 2024:
A little 48 page doujinshi „Anime Meguri / アニメめぐり“ was also published. It contains all the photos from this blog article and some bonus pages/photos and informations about the locations. There is also a bonus chapter about Heidelberg, which was featured at the end of the Violet Evergarden TV series. It was first published at Dokomi 2024 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Later that year a Japanese translation was released at Summer Comiket 104 in Tokyo, Japan. Currently the Japanese version is sold-out – sorry for that. Some English bookets are still left. You can contact me via email or Twitter DM in case there is any interest for one.
Nuremberg
We will start with Nuremberg. All locatios can be found pretty easy and by foot. Starting at the Nuremberg central railway station it is just a short 20 minutes walk to the Kaiserburg (Imperial Castle) through the inner city. On the way to the castle you can find all the following spots in the inner city we’ve found.
Mannheim
In Mannheim all locations can be found at the Baroque Palace. Tickets for adults are 7 EUR per person, check the opening times since it is currently closed on mondays. In Violet Evergarden the Knights Hall was featured and the stairs from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor. Audio guides in different languages are included in the ticket price.
Update – 23.09.2024:
@red_violetsnow did found two additional cuts, I was allowed to link the tweet and use the photos. Thanks a lot for that ^_^.
Frankfurt
While we did not visit any anime locations in Frankfurt, we stayed in the Toyoko Inn near the central railway station. If you want to stay at a japanese style budget hotel, we can highly recommend the Toyoko Inn in Frankfurt.
Cochem
In Cochem you also can confortably visit most places by foot and chair lift. Cochem is accessable via train like all the other mentioned cities. Just 2 spots are a bit far away and you would need a car to visit them conveniently. Most spots can be found in the old town of Cochem and in the Cochem Castle. Tickets for adults are 7 EUR per person. Normally there are English guided tours available, but due to the current Corona situation check their website to be sure.
The Cochem chair lift up to the Pinner Kreuz is also 6,90 EUR per person per roundtrip. This gets you comfortably to the top and back. But you also can walk your way up and down or just get a one-way ticket.
As promised here are all locations we found on a convient Violet Evergarden Gaiden Location Google Maps ^_^
We hope this will help you to visit all these nice cities and locations on your anime location hunt.
Huge shout out for @q87dt since he prepared pretty much all the Google Maps stuff and locations ^_^
